1.1 - Industry Connect S25

Wednesday night saw CASSA celebrate our second Industry Connect for the year, giving the opportunity for students to speak to and learn from people in the computing and security industries.

The committee would like to thank everyone who helped whether volunteering on the day, helping to plan and most importantly a massive thank you to our incredible panellists who without their help the event wouldn’t be possible

1.2 - CASSA x PECAN+ CTF Creator Competition 🏆

Design challenges for PECAN+!

Do you want to put your cybersecurity skills to the test in a different way? RedRoom and CASSA are hosting the CTF Creator Contest, where ECU students can design their own CTF challenges! The best challenges will be featured in PECAN+, a national high school CTF competition.

You only need a ticket if you plan on attending the workshop

1.3 - S1: ECU Open Day

CASSA had the opportunity to meet prospective new students to give them a rundown of the advantages of getting involved with academic clubs like CASSA (and what makes us great) on their academic journey at the ECU Open Day.

We’d like to thank Karina, the ECU staff, volunteers and school ambassadors for all of their work with making the day a success!

CASSA was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with current and future students as well as industry professionals at the ECU careers fair day. We’d like to thank and welcome all of our new members, as well as all of the wonderful industry representatives we had the chance to speak with on the day.

1.5 - S1: CASSA Start of Semester Social (SoSS)

Start of Semester Social (SoSS)

We started 2025 with a bang, enjoying a very successful start of semester social. 30+ people came and enjoyed a night of games, highlighted by a CASSA and computer science inspired game of Family Feud hosted by our own Steve Harvey, the beloved president Lachlan Marshall.

2 - 2026

2.1 - Website Migration

What happened?

The CASSA website used to use the Ghost CMS, but it was decided that as the site is actually static, there is no point using a dynamic CMS platform and hosting the site locally when it cna become static and be hosted in the cloud.

This creates the benefit, that if the CASSA severs ever go down or their internet connection drops, the website can still run, increasing the cassa.au uptime.

New Website

The new CASSA website is now split into two main sections:

1. The Dynamic Site.

   This is a 3D rendered version of the CASSA Desk that was developed in three.js and allows CASSA to showcase its uniqueness

2. The Static Site.

   This is the current site you are on. This was created for nay users of the CASSA site that do not have the proper computing power to render the dynamic site easily in the webrowser on their device. As such, this static site was created to allow users to still interact with CASSA and find out about events or about CASSA in general no matter what device they are on.

2.2 - Learn 2 Linux Semester 2

L2L

On the 2nd of September from 11am-2pm in Joondalup Campus, Building 2 Room 126, CASSA ran the 2026 Semester 2 Learn 2 Linux (L2L) workshop.

this workshop was led by La “Laura” Luo, in her first ever workshop. It ran without a hitch using the Docker Labs v1 infastructure to give all the attendees a Linux VM they could connect to through a browser-based webshell.

Through this workshop the attendees learned about what Linux is, why it is important to know Linux, and the basics of how to use the Linux terminal to do simple things like file and directory modification/creation to more advanced beginner things such as how to grep, or use htop.
